Sanya

With clear blue waters and white sand beaches along its south edge, lush green mountains to the north and palm trees just about everywhere, Sanya is truly a tropical paradise with seemingly endless sun, fun and exciting activities for visitors of all nationalities, ages and interests.

Located on the southernmost tip of Hainan Island, Sanya is the island's most famous tropical resort, wonderful in the baking summer months and a popular spot in winter too. Once home to China's most reviled exiles, Sanya has been transformed from a spot that no one wanted to visit at the ¡°End of the Earth', to become one of China's most popular, most beautiful and relaxed areas.

Sanya town is situated on a small peninsula, connected to the mainland by two bridges. The town itself is a noisy and atmospheric place. Sanya is an active naval base and men in uniform, 'ladies of the night' and fishermen all mingle together around the docks and wharf area. This is a great place to soak up some atmosphere, and the night market here is especially lively with seafood restaurants lining the streets, stores selling all types of weird and wonderful wares, and huge tea warehouses all adding to the inquisitive feeling about this place.

Sanya is becoming one of the most popular destinations for vacationers from both China and the world.  A coastal city with picturesque tropical scenery, Sanya is like a pearl on a piece of green jade, Hainan Island.

Sanya's annual average temperature is 25.4 centigrade (77 F). In July, the hottest month, the average temperature is 28 centigrade (82 F) and in January, the coldest month, 21 centigrade (70 F). Sanya is called "Winter Palace".

Sanya has five kinds of treasures:  Sea, Sand, Air, Green and Sunshine. The sea is jade-like, the sand rouge-like, the bay rainbow-like and the sight picturesque, which makes Sanya rival Hawaii in beauty, But not yet commercialized.

Sanya has a long history. There are famous places of scenic beauty and historical interest such as:The Ying Wan Pagoda which was built in the first year of the Qing Dynasty(1851), Tianyahaijiao ( End of the Earth), the Cape of the Sea where the sky can't be distinguished from the sea in color, the Turn- Round Deer Park(Luhuitou), with a myth of a Love affair, Da Donghai (sea) and Xiao Donghai (sea), fine places for swimming in winter, Ya long Bay and Sanya Bay with fame of "Hawaii in the East", the major and minor caves, with a wonder of the sea and mountains, the Eastern Island and the Western Island, like two turtles floating on the waves, in addition, the silent coconut gardens, and the customs of the Li, Miao and Hui nationalities.

Sanya is abundant with many kinds of seafood and seafood restaurants. Tropical fruits like lychee, gui yuan, pineapple, jack-fruit, mongo and bananas are available year round.

The beaches are definitely the biggest attraction here. Sanya has some of the most beautiful and well-maintained stretches of sand not just in China, but in southern Asia. The sand here is white. Palm trees provide shelter from the sun, and the sea is wonderfully blue and warm. This is just about the only place in China with a really laid-back feeling and atmosphere. You could spend anywhere from a few days to a week or so here soaking up the sun, relaxing and just enjoying the unique and relaxed ambience that dominates Sanya.
